Fast food
An excellent fish and chip van comes to Harlech on Friday evenings, 5-8pm.  It parks underneath the castle on the lower road, opposite Harlech train station. Text or ‘phone 07892 719117 to place an order.

Indian and Chinese takeaways are located in Harlech, Barmouth and Porthmadog.

The ice cream shop in Harlech is fantastic! Try the rhubarb flavour…

There is a vegan café in Penryhyndeaudraeth, around 5 miles towards Porthmadog

Convenience stores
Premier Morfa Stores (Harlech lower road underneath the castle) is open until 10pm. 

There is a newsagents/general hardware store near Harlech castle called Seasons and Reasons for newspapers and basic groceries. 

Barmouth has a Co-operative, Spar and Iceland. Porthmadog has Tesco, Lidl and Aldi. 

The Spar in Dyffryn Ardudwy has an excellent butchers attached selling “championship sausages”.

The Old Cheese market delicatessen in Harlech is superb for great cheeses, home made bread and fine wines.

Dining
There are a number of very good restaurants and cafes in the area, booking is essential during high season. It is worth noting that no outlets deliver food in this area. Here are a few to note:

  • Castle Cottage, Harlech – fine dining
  • Y Branwen, Harlech – newly refurbished bar, hotel and restaurant. Great bar meals and fine dining. Dogs permitted.
  • Castle Bistro, Harlech – small, informal with excellent food
  • Waterside café, located at the swimming pool in Harlech, great for breakfast
  • Tonys, Talybont – long-established Italian restaurant, excellent pizza
  • Dylan’s, Criccieth Esplanade, Criccieth – informal seafood restaurant set in a beautiful beachfront art deco building
  • Victoria Pub, Llanbedr
  • Wenallt Deli and Café, Llanbedr – gorgeous home made cakes and breakfasts
  • Hendre Coed restaurant, Llanaber – great home-cooked food
  • Llanfair slate caverns café
  • The Last Inn, Barmouth – great steaks and live music
  • Mermaid fish and chips, Barmouth – always a favourite
  • The Bank Tapas restaurant, Porthmadog
  • Big Rock Café  In Porthmadog by the crossroads.  Lots of choice, locally sourced food, reasonable prices and small play area for children.
  • Tan-y-Bwlch cafe Station cafe half way up the Ffestiniog Railway with great children’s play area and walks around the lake.
  • Ty Mawr Very friendly café in Rhyd Ddu, A bit further a field but worth the journey. Set under the shadow of Snowdon and a short walk from the Welsh Highland Railway station. Try the Dutch pancakes.
  • Caffi Gwynant  A converted chapel in the village of Nant Gwynant near the Watkin path route to the summit of Snowdon selling good locally sourced food.
  • Cafe Colwyn  Beside river in Beddgelert. Tea/coffee, snacks, meals. Nice location.
  • Hebog Eat and Sleep  The other side of the river in Beddgelert. Tea/coffee, Fish and Chip, snacks and meals.
